Kicking Off Winter Workshops with Art and Gardens
With a lack of serious snow and mild temperatures this Winter most of us have felt antsy to get out and play, gardeners included. On January 21st, we started the Growing Our Own Winter Workshop Series off with a bang. Over fifty artists and gardeners from all around Columbus gathered in the multi-purpose rooms at the Godman Guild.

The morning started out with a presentation from local artists Helena Harvey-Collins and Melissa Vogley-Woods. The afternoon consisted of a hands-on collaborative effort to create actual projects made for a fun Saturday.
The two artists' focus on urban transformation gave everyone ideas on how to change our perspectives of urban artwork, growing methods and beautification using sustainable products.
Growing Matters Program Manager Trish Dehnbostel helped connect people to resources in their neighborhoods and covered the basics of how to organize, pursue funding for projects and partner with local organizations to share community resources.

After receiving a blast of ideas to motivate, people were excited to work together to create drawings and spell out solutions to resource shortages with simple, but aesthetically pleasing maps of transformed gardens. I know that I took home a sense of inspiration from all of the smiles and sharing of knowledge.
