Local Food is Growing!

Hi Localvores! As many of you already know, MORPC (Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission) has put together a Local Food Assessment And Plan to help grow the local food network in the Central Ohio region. They have put together a very impressive, solid framework, grounded in research and focused on goals and solutions to move forward on. The publication is fulll of practical solutions which touch on all areas of food production and consumption such as: "Promote large-scale institutional purchases of local food," "Increase food-processing capacity," "Adopt new practices to extend growing seasons" and "Adapt to changing food-safety standards and consumer preferences." The article is much too detailed for me to go into all the specifics in this blog but I will say that I am so proud to see the possibilities for a strongly supported Local Foods effort in our area. I am equally proud that the goals and solutions outlined in this document are full of action words, including: increase, adapt, adopt, develop, establish, improve, promote, ensure, help, modernize, make sure, and showcase. Near the end of the article there is also a suggestion for what all of us can do to help make the ideas in the article a reality. We can contact our Center for Energy and Environment at 614-233-4178 and ask what we can do to help. Bravo MORPC and participating organizations!!!
