Local Matters and Community

I was recently re-writing my personal bio to post on our Local Matters web-site. After I wrote it, and took a good look at it, I was pleasantly suprised by the variety of community work I have participated in. In looking at Local Matters as an organization, I see that we have so many shining stars in relation to community involvement. I think this is so important for an organization and is, perhaps, something that sets our organization apart from others. I have worked closely with health and wellness groups in the community, participated in adult cooking demonstrations, and am preparing to lead children's activites at a farmer's market in Franklinton. In addition to my work with Local Matters, I bring my experiences of volunteering at Stratford Ecological Center and with the Columbus Waldorf Association (Other organizations that understands the importance of real, healthy food for young children and adults.) Trish Dehnbostle and other staff members participate in farmer's market's activities, and other food related community events on a regular basis. Trish also organizes a community garden and takes photographs to document our work and our partners work. These photos document change, inspire and inform. They are used for hand-outs, presentations, sent to possible financial granters, and are displayed on our very own web site. Noreen Warnock serves on the Ohio Food Policy Council, National Farm to School Committee and the Greater Columbus Growing Association just to name a few. As an organization, we are currently re-writing our staff bios and resumes to reflect all the wonderful work that we do. I would need to write 50 blogs to capture all of the talent and experience that all of our staff members bring to our organization. Each staff member brings with them their own community involvement experiences which combine with our work to create a passionate, community focused, and connected whole. I encourage you to visit the Who We Are page on our web-site to find out more about who we are and what we do. Thank you for your interest in Local Matters and in visiting our site. I look forward to meeting you, perhaps at the next community event involving healthy food!!
