Local Matters Chosen as Karen Kasich Event Beneficiary

Local Matters was selected as one of three charitable beneficiaries of OH First Lady Karen Kasich's Salute to Ohio’s Next First Lady Event, Saturday, January 8th. Local Matters,  alongside the American Heart Association and the OH Network of Second Harvest Foodbanks, will benefit from the proceeds raised.

The event will take place at the Columbus Museum of Art from 6-8pm and tickets are $500 per person. All contributions to this event will benefit charity.  The event is one of seven happening in Ohio from January 7th through 10th, which honor the inauguration of John Kasich as the 69th Governor of Ohio and Mary Taylor as Lt. Tickets@NewDayOhio.comor calling 614-824-1152.        In a recent article, Salute to Ohio’s Next First Lady Will Benefit Local Charities, posted in the Columbus Dispatch by Megan Piwowar, Mrs. Kasich is described as being “passionate about health, wellness and fitness.” She chose Local Matters and the other beneficiaries because “these charities provide nutrition and promote the adoption of healthy lifestyles.”  She states, “It’s an honor to be in a position to raise money for important initiatives that make a difference in people’s lives. I’m committed to Ohio, especially the Central Ohio community that has been so influential in my life. This community shaped who I am today.”        At Local Matters, we have been busily working to teach kids and families a healthy relationship to wholesome foods (especially Ohio-grown foods) for the last few years. We are honored to be recognized for this work and to be in a position to support the growing awareness about the issues around healthy food access and education we as Ohioans face. For children born after the year 2000, 1 in 3 children are expected to get diabetes in their lifetime. It’s 1 in 2 for African American or Hispanic children. Additionally, children born after the year 2000 have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. These are statistics we are working hard to change and we are extremely grateful to be chosen as a beneficiary for the Salute to Ohio’s First Lady Event.          Local Matters will also have a table with information and a “Food is Art” activity for children at the Family Day at the Ohio Statehouse event on Sat.
