Local Matters Veggie Van
Partnering for food access throughout Columbus

Summer 2019 sees a return of Local Matters’ Veggie Van, redesigned! Veggie Van is a mobile grocer and food education program on wheels. Veggie Van partners with schools, places of worship, local businesses, and other community organizations to create a consistent, diverse range of fresh food access points throughout the city.

Initially, the mobile market will sell fresh produce and healthy pantry staple items at discounted prices in the Linden, Hilltop, and Near East neighborhoods of Columbus. Local Matters will provide free on-site nutrition education and cooking demonstrations using the ingredients being sold from the van that week.

Reliable access to healthy foods, as well as the knowledge and skills required to shop for, prepare, and cook healthy meals on a budget, are key aspects of increasing food security and preventing diet-related disease in our community.
